My name is Geraldine Bairstow born in Kingston Jamaica in 1957 but brought up in Bulawayo Zimbabwe. I Left Zimbabwe in 1977 to settle in South Africa with ex - husband and three month old daughter Lisa. I never studied art but enjoyed doodling and pencil drawings as a kid. I only started painting seven years ago when I joined an art school.
I was at art school for four years and set up my paintings in a nearby bead shop. I sold numerous paintings and had three commissions. The bead shop eventually had to close down. I sold more paintings to members of my bowling club and again had a few commissions. I took up art lessons as I was retired and needed a hobby and to meet people. I am so glad I did as it changed my life. I have not painted since and it was my brother’s idea to find a place where I maybe could sell more as the paintings were packed away in a box. My main medium is acrylics as I preferred it to oils.
